What does AWA stand for?

Now there's a question that has been asked to just about everyone who has been associated with the AWA Enterprises Softball Club. It's a question that rarely gets answered, mostly because so few actually know, and over the years it has been elevated to the status of "ancient riddle". After all, in a world full of acronyms, the initials AWA must stand for something. Could it be "After Work Athletes"? Or "Aching, Winded, and Awful"? How about "Another Wasted Afternoon"? Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. A reply that the team name is actually pronounced "Ah-Wah" will label you as an insider, but that still doesn't answer the question.

What does AWA stand for? Well, the origin of the letters go back to 1970, long before the idea of a softball team ever existed. It goes back to a group of guys who enjoyed getting together to play a little sandlot baseball on the weekends. The actual origin of the letters AWA was not so important as the friendships that existed at that time. The fact that we were known as the AWA League was enough. And it's these close ties that the team was built on and what kept us together all these years.

The seeds of AWA softball were planted during the days of those old sandlot baseball games, a regular weekend event that brought together the core players who would eventually become the AWA Enterprises Softball Club.
