Jerry Hills
If a season could be defined by a name, then the 1997 campaign was the Year of Scooby. Coming to us virtually unknown from the far away playing fields of Endicott, New York, Jerry wondered about his new team on opening day when he noticed that the guy playing in the outfield next to him was about 100 years old and wearing cords. But Jerry, as well as the team, got off to a hot start, and the union proved to be a good one. He picked up his nickname of "Scooby" at the Tahoe tournament that year, and never has a nickname taken so well. Scouting Report: Scooby swings at the first pitch! He often displayed that awesome warning track power, and proved that even young players in their 20s can be slow. Scooby returned home to New York in '98, but he made good on a promise to come back out to California in August of that year for our annual trip to Lake Tahoe. He continues to torment us from afar by e-mail whenever his beloved Vikings do well.
